Co-ordinators Albert & Bob advise that they held a successful Christmas function on 9 December at a new venue with a good attendance of 21. Albert said that Garry was actually one of the Canberra branch managers in November 1982 and has visited Canberra regularly since retirement to catch up with family and friends.Unfortunately, some regular members of our group were unable to attend.Canberra is looking forward to having two functions in 2023, one mid-year and the other in December.
A very friendly gathering of 43 people, 26 of whom were members, plus their partners, at the Coniston Hotel in Coniston today. We were fortunate to have Graeme and Judith Bool, and Peter and Jean Maber visit from afar, with all others attending having a history of working and living in the Illawarra District. Laurie Sainsbury (my voice) graciously welcomed everyone on my behalf and tendered apologies and remembrance of our members that died since our last meeting. He then introduced Graeme Bool who gave a brief precis on where the ANZROC (NSW) club currently sits and its vision for the short- to medium-term. He also thanked the CEO of the ANZ Bank , Shayne Elliott, for his financial support and active interest in the well-being of ANZROC clubs throughout the country.
The food was said to be good by all those that were asked, and the chatter was long and loud, so it has to be assumed that a good time was had by all with the venue lending itself to a good deal of mingling. The photographer apologises to those omitted from the attached photographs (Mark Nightingale, Del Pratt, John Turnbull and his companion Aggie, and Reg Smeaton; I guess I am no longer as fast on his feet as I used to be!)
On yet another lovely sunny day in Newcastle the Hunter ROC Committee held their final lunch for 2022 on 24th November at Cardiff RSL Club. The usual high standard buffet was provided by the Club. There were 30 attendees and numerous apologies from folk unable to attend for one reason or another. One notable absentee was stalwart Cheryl Richardson who once again organised the popular "Lucky Seats" draw. Thanks Cheryl. The local committee also greatly appreciated the presence of a good number of people who joined us from out of town (including Sydney, Central Coast and Port Stephens) – thank you.The man behind the camera sincerely apologises to those in attendance who somehow were overlooked when the cameraman was moving around the room! These people were regulars in the form of John Ball and Keith Crawford – sorry, fellas! The Hunter ROC Committee extends Season's Greetings to all, and best wishes for 2023.
Thanks to the very generous support of our Club Patron Gerard Florian, the Club held its first Cocktail function for three years in ANZ Tower Sydney on 7 December 2022. Gerard was unable to host our function due to commitments with ANZ CEO Shayne Elliott in HQ Melbourne, and as Club President Terry Auld was also unable to attend, Club Secretary Graeme Bool acted as host with assistance of Committee members who welcomed all and mingled with members present. A very good turn-up by members, including a few who travelled some distance to attend, such as Robert Ziems from South West Rocks, Ron Welsh and Ken Dighton, both from Newcastle, and John Mitchell Morisset, Boris and Jenni Cebokli, and Karen Clarke, all from Wollongong. It was great to see Hon Members Clive Lennon attend with his son Stephen, who acted as his carer for the day, and John Freedman & wife Wendy who is John’s carer. Graeme thanked our Club Patron for his very generous support for our function, and CEO Shayne Elliott for the Bank's subsidy to all ANZROC Clubs in Australia again in 2022. Graeme also thanked Amanda Clark who is Executive Assistant to Gerard in Sydney, and 16th Floor Concierge Manager Nicholas Hood and Kar Seng and the catering staff for their assistance and support which ensured our function went smoothly.
